Citroën really went to town on the promotional material for the SM. This was the most luxurious, fastest and by far the most expensive car they had ever produced. The accompanying materials reflected this.

There are two quite famous brochures. The first here was a selection of art prints presented in a white folder with a gold SM logo on the cover. The car shot is obviously pre-production as there are elements that were wrong. No production SM ever had manual window winders for example, nor was the radio aerial fitted to the roof!

The second is a booklet that includes some quite fabulous photography of the car in contemporary 70’s settings, and with a contemporary 70’s Afghan dog!

Another set of famous publicity photos shot in a forest with a model small enough to make the interior look roomy – her name Suzanne Mirable. In Peter Pijlman’s book SM De Diva there is a whole chapter on the quest to find her again.  Again notice the pre-production location of the radio aerial on the roof.

Adverts from the UK motoring press in 1973 for the new EFI version show the SM in a rural setting. Although each photo may look the same they are all subtly different. Maybe it was to draw attention away from the ever increasing price!
