A white Citroen SM was chosen for the launch of the car in Geneva in 1970. History does not record the names of the models or how much they were paid for wearing those wigs!

In the color photos (one appears to be a mirror image of the other) the wigs were gone. Was this progress at work?

Given how many photographers would have been there it is remarkable how few photographs appear to have survived.  If anyone knows of photos from any car magazine from the time with additional photos we’d love to know.

Other notable launches at the 1970 salon were the Range Rover and the Alfa Romeo Montreal.  The former selling in somewhat larger quantities than the SM, whereas the latter only numbered 3,737.

Probably the most iconic of the concept cars shown was the Ferrari Modulo which remains a trip hazard until this day.

The UK launch was at the London Motor Show at Earls Court in October, this is the original Citroën press release from the show.
